FOXTON WINS LICENSED VICTUALLERS' CUP. Ihe final for the Licensed Victuallers' Cup, Foxton Juniors v. Shannon, was played on Easton Park on Saturday, and resulted in a win by 8 points to (i for (be home team. Yellow (Foxton) kicked off and immediately took up the offensive, but Red (Shannon) forwards carried play back to.mid-field. J. Huff secured oil (lie wing and kicked acioss to Proctor, who secured, but little ground was gained. The Red forwards now carried play right over the line, a live-yards’ serum being awarded them, hut Andrews broke quickly and saved Yellow. Yellow hacks began to throw the ball around, but Hunt intercepted, spoiling bis effort by knocking on. Walls, at full-back, put in a useful run and transferred to Kirkland, who scored from mid-field. H. Hull: convened. Foxton 5, Shannon nil. Shannon immediately rushed the line, but Walls was snj'e. A penalty to Shannon saw Hunt's kick tail. The Red forwards were now 'playing hard and giving the ball lo then 1 backs, whii'di enabled Holden to score. The kick failed. Foxton 5, Shannon 8.
For some time play centred in mid livid. Red gradually got a slight advariiage, but Hirini saved well. Kirkland secured and passed out to Perrean, to TTirini to H. fluff, his pass to Proctor being missed and Hunt put- in a good kick for Alorgan to follow up and beat Malls for the force. Roach’s kick failed. Shannon tl, Foxton 5. The spell ended shortly after. On resuming-,- Yellow were very ..'Cgii-ssive at the beginning of the r.eeond spell, the forwards especially working very hard. A good dribbling rush saw Shaw score for ! ,i\fi,u tmt Huff’s kick failed. Fox inn 8, Shannon 0, Red. f'liig'hi liar.l for a score, but Yiliow were- easily able to bold them and one good passing rush almost .-aw thorn over. Pole gained ground for Rod with a. couple of lucky .speculations, but Hirini was again to the fore and saved well. From this ~n Red kept ihe local boys pressed in their iwenty-five, but the defence. In speaking to the toast. Air Austin said that he had been two years on the Rugby Union and in that time hud done his host for all clubs. Walls. Captain of the. Foxton leant, in doing so lie congratulated Foxton on their win and stated that it was a pleasure and an honour for him to be present at this function. Hi> was an old player himself, and know what it was like to “land ’ a competition. He hoped that next .-mason, if Shannon did not win, they would lie runners-up’ to Foxton again. The toast of “the ladies” by the Chairman brought- the function to a close.
