Now that the green is open for play it is opportune to bring under the notice of members a few points from the minute hook relating to regulations brought into force for the betterment of the'Club. The following regulation in respect of new members passed by the Committee last year, is interesting: —“The proposer of any new rnem.ber who is not proficient as a howlet. should he responsible for taking such new member in hand.” Owing t«i allegations of tin-.pre-sence of cliques on the green, the following regulation was brought down last season. —“That where a friendly rinks game is in progress, and there an-, two members to play, the two seconds in the rinks engaged in play shall drop out of ihe rinks game and make a further pairs.game with the two disengaged members. ’* Tin's season an addition of Oil will he made to ihe annual subscription of howlers owning howls stored in liu- pavilion. This small amount is io cover the premium payment for lire insurance, which the Committee thought it wise to take out on behalf of such owners. Members wishing to secure gate keys can do so by application to the secretary, and by payment of 2/- to cover cost. A new lock has been fitted to tlic gate and old keys are therefore useless. MILFORD CLP. By resolution of the Annual meeting, the Wilford Cup will be competed for as a rinks trophy this season. The Committee have set the following- conditions to govern same: —“That rinks consists of two ‘A’ and two ‘B‘ players: rinks shall he drawn by ballot at commencement of season as soon as entries close; tlie Club selectors, after rinks arc drawn, to decide each rink’s handicap. The first two rinks to play for the Cup shall be drawn by ballot, and all games thereafter shall lie by rotation as drawn in the first ballot. The rink registering the greatest number of wins during the season shall be adjudged the holders of the Cup. In the event of a tie in any game, an extra head shall he played. There shall be no win-? by default, but when a link defaults the holders shall play the next rink on the list. In tlie absence of a player or players, the vacancy shall he filled by consent of the opposing skip. The entrance fee shall la- 2/fi per player for the season. Sene cards, signed by the opposing skips must be handed to the secretary after each match.” Entries are wanted for the Wil‘ford Cup contest as set out above. Make application forthwith, so as to facilitate the commencement of the games. . XYE FERN'S. The following new regulation in respect of the Xye Ferns will operate during the current season: — "An entrance fee of fid per player per game will be charged for challenging rinks, and each day a drawing will be made at 2 o’clock of those players then assembled at the green for a challenging rink; also that no rink he allowed to hold these trophies more than three times consecutively.” That is to say, each Wednesday, for instance, at. 2 o’clock, a draw will lie made by means ofcards kept, for that purpose, of all players then assembled on the green, two names from each grade (“A” and “B” piayers, ,in accordance with the classification scheme as laid down by resolution of the annual meeting) thus ensuring that all play-el’s not at that time holders of the trophies, shall have an equal chance of play. The first two teams to contest the trophies will be drawn simultaneously —probably next Wednesday. If a rink defends the trophies three times consecutively, their names will be again-returned to the ballot. and a" further two rinks drawn. This system should prove fair to all players and will obviate any likelihood of any four players combining to make An extra strong rink for the purpose of monopolising the trophies. OPENING DAYS. Terrace End Club open their green this afternoon. Foxton will be represented by one rink. Bulls Club open their green on Wednesday, 29th instunt. . LABOUR DAY TOURNEY. A pairs tourney will be held on Labour Day, 27th instant, play to commence at 9 a.m. The conditions of play will be notified in these eolums before that date. DIXON CUP. A challenge has been entered on behalf of Foxton Club for the Dixon Cup. The challenges registered to date, as far as our information goes, are: Eketahuna, Dannevirke, Shannon. Woodville Club are the holders at present.
