LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
At Easton Park on Saturday, Foxton met and defeated Pc!one Seniors by Itl points to nil. The game was never particularly brilliant and throughout the game there seemed too much whistle. Reid, Westwood and Kirkland were the best of the local team, while Bruce and Ward were Petone’s best on the day . Petone won the toss and Foxton (yellow) kicked off against a high wind. An exchange of kicks saw Yellow awarded a penalty and Blue took the offensive but another penalty relieved and following up well. Reid secured, passed to Aloses, in-lieid to Westwood, who crossed, but the try was disallowed. Blue again looked dangerous for a few moments, but O’Reilly relieved. Blue were penalised for off-side play and Westwood following- up, was just beaten by Bruce, who cleared nicely. Robinson secured, passed to Westwood, to Aloses, to Hakaraia, who missed a difficult pass. Ward cleared with a good kick and Craig looked like scoring, but a penalty on the line again saved Yellow. Arthur Fidler put in a good mu, but was stopped by Smith. The spell ended with no score.
Practically following the kick-off Westwood scored and converted his try. Foxton 5, Petone nil. Blue pressed hard now, but Aloses saved only for T. Ryan to put in a good run. He was held up on the line and from an ensuing scrum, Yellow gradually took play to midfield where Kirkland secured and heating all opponents, scored his initial try, his kick failing, Foxton S, Petone nil. Blue took the offensive again and Westwood cleared, T. Ryan fielding well, kicked 100 hard, and Reid securing, set his backs going, the ball travelling to Westwood, to Aloses, to Ha pc, in-lield to Westwood, who was immediately tackled by P. Ryan. At this stage .J. Burt was injured. From a serum T. Fuller secured, sent the leather to Reid, to Aloses, who scored and converted. Foxton 13, Petone nil. Following the kick out Reid secured again, passed to Aloses. to H. Fuller, who scored. A\estwood’s kick went astray. Foxton lfi, Petone nil. From this on. Yellow continually pressed, but could add no further score and the game ended lb —nil in favour of Foxton.
