Owing to the recent drowning there of three Maoris a tapu was placed on the Whakaki lagoon and the sea from Mahia to Arapawanui. This tapu has now, quiteunexpectedly, been, lifted, .the Maoris arguing that twelve months was)-too long a period to go without enjoying the tuna, carp and shark to be obtained from the banned area.
