THE HEMP MARKET.

SEPTEMBER GRADING RETURNS. -

The grading returns for hernp, lew. stripper-tow and si rippersi ips for the month of September have been issued by the Department of Agriculture ns follows: — Ifemp. —The total number of bales graded was 5,101 as compared with 4,240 for September 1923, an increase of 8(51 bales. For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1924, 09,145 hales were graded as against 59,882 for the previous 12 months, an increase of 9,2(33 bales.

Tow. —During the month 1,264 hales were graded as against 975 in September 1923, an increase of 289 hales. For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1924, 16,443 bales were graded as against 15,314 for the previous .12 months, an increase of 1,129 bales. Stripper-tow.—During the month 94 bales were graded, as against 86 bales in September 1923, an increase of eight bales. Stripper-slips.—During the month 254 bales were graded, as against 12 bales in September, 1923, an increase of 242 bales. The following shows the detailed particulars of the hemp graded.—

Four bales a! Wellington were graded line. Sixteen bales al Auckland, 38 at Foxton and 7(1 al Wellington were rejected. The following shows the number of bales in each grade,' the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Fine -1 (nil), good fair 107 (083), high fair 3.070 (2,231), fair 1,504 (1.220), common 220 (48), rejected 130 (52), a total of 5,101 bales. The number of bales graded at each port. was. —Auckland 1,117, Foxton 1,030, Wellington 2,007, Lytle It on 28, Bluff 310. The following shows the detailed particulars of the low graded,—

Seven bales at. Auckland and eleven at Foxton were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last, year being given in parenthesis:— Ist grade 282 (403), 2nd grade 80S (404), 3rd grade 90 (95), condemned 18 (13), a total of 289 hales. The number of bales graded at eaeh .port were:—Auckland 197, Foxton 274, Wellington 430, Lyttelton 150, Bluff 207. Stripper-tow.—Twenty-six. hales a! Foxton were graded Ist grade and 50 hales at Foxton and eighteen at Wellington 2nd grade.

Stripper-slips. —Eight bales at Auckland and 101 at Wellington w ere graded Ist grade. Twenty-eight bales at Auckland, 10 at Foxton and S 3 at Bluff were graded 2nd grade and 14 bales at Bluff passed for export. Ten bales at Bluff were condemned.
