FOXTON STATE SCHOOL.
FOOTP.AU, TEAM ENTERTAINED.
A very pleasant little gathering was held on Thursday evening at the residence of Mr A. AY. Stevenson, Hall- St., when AD and Mrs Stevenson entertained at dinner, the Eoxio School Football team, winners of the Seven-a-Side tournament, and the Austin Banner for season 1024. Afr Stevenson presided and among those present were Air P. A. Mason, headmaster, and J. Dunn, who had acted as coach to the hoys during the past season.
After a sumptuous repast had been done full justice to, a number of (oasts were proposed and responded to. AIY Stevenson proposed that of ••’Our Coach,” and referred to the great amount of self-sacrificing work Mr Dunn had put in among the hoys. On behalf of the lads he presented Arc Dunn with a handsome electric torch as a token of esteem and appreciation. Afr Dunn, in responding, thanked ihe boys for their gift, and spoke of lli,. great pleasure it had been to him to he of assistance to such a fine lot of lads, who had, by their excellent conduct and hearing brought the greatest credit to themselves, their parents, their school, and their town. Afr Ala son then proposed “The : Team.” Tn doing so, lie congratulated the boys on the excellent performance they had put up in annexing so many trophies during’ one season. This was in a large degree fine to the training they had received, and he expressed the hope that the example set by the 1924 team would he followed both on and off the field by the future football and sports teams of the school in future venrs.
Alas tors A. Stevenson ( captain) and Rex Ball (vice-captain) suitably responded. The next roast honoured was that of “Our Headmaster,” who in responding, referred to the tremendous value of clean, wholesome sport in the life of the hoy, the youth, and the grown man. He exhorted the hid? to keep their games clean, to fill their leisure with some useful and vigorous pa-time and always to hear in mind the many lessons to he learned from “playing the game.” The final toast was “Onr Host and Hostess." to whom all present showed their gratitude for and appreciation of the splendid manner i„ which they had been entertained by the singing of “They are -Tolly Good Fellows.” followed by hearty cheers. During ihe evening Eddie Stevenson recited “The Torch of Life, and Roy Roore led the company in a Afaoi'i hakn. Cheers for lady helpers brought the gathering to a close.
