Maslerton, Septemb. 20 In f lie Supreme Court, the Mayor, of Masterton (Mr 0. N. C. Pragnell) and eleven other councillors and excouncillors of the Masterton Borough Council were each fined £5 for illegally transferring moneys from a special loan account (which was in credit) to the general account (which was in debit) in order to save overdraft interest. The Judge agreed that the councillors had acted in what they considered to he the interests of the ratepayers. The act was illegal, however, unless authorised by Or-der-in-Council.

The prosecution was brought by the Audit Department.
