AUCKLAND MYSTERY.

MISSING SCHOOLGIRL. Auckland, .September 25. There were interesting developments to-day in respect of the case of the Epsom Grammar schoolgirl, Miss Margaret Martin, who left her home at 25a, Carlton Gore road on September 18th, and was missing in baffling circumstances for a week. The girl and her mother, Mrs D. G. Martin, were brought together in the afternoon at a. special conference arranged for that purpose. It also was attended by several'parties and legal representatives concerned in the case.

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Cleary) was also pre sent.

It is staled that the somewhat remarkable circumstances of this singular case were discussed in a conciliatory spirit, but no official report of the meeting was obtainable. Each of the principals and (heir representatives appeared to pi oiler ihai if any statement should be given at all il might be made by the mother. It was made clear, however, even in circumstances of reticence, that the principals were at least brought nearer io a prospect of complete reconciliation. Some features of the case are still enveloped in mystery. No iuformationjhas been disclosed as to where or with whom the girl had been housed. All were agreed, however, that the girl had been well cared for. The Grammar School Board gave consideration, in private, to another side of the case, as far as the Epsom School was concerned. Later an official declaration was made that the hoard finds it impossible to connect the Epsom Girls’ Grammar School in any way with the disappearance of Miss Martin. A more intimate conference will be held to-morrow between the mother and her daughter, and those interested in it appear to be confident that its result will make a pleasant end to a strange story.
