YOUNG WOMAN STABBED.
NO TRACE OF ASSAILANT. Auckland, Last Night. An assault of a desperate character in circumstances which might easily have terminated in murder, was ’perpetrated this evening near one of the entrances to Albert Park. Miss Salek, a young woman, was brutally, stabbed in the back with a knife, or other sharp instrument, by an unknown man who had apparently followed her from the locality of the public library. The assailant escaped. The assault occurred shortly before eight o’clock, while Miss Salek was on her way home through Albert Park. It is reported that the man followed her from near the library and when Miss Salek reached the Princes Street gate, the man rushed upon her and stabbed her savagely in the back between the shoulders. . Her screams immediately brought, two pedestrians to her assistance, but these did not have an opportunity to identify the culprit, who ran off quickly. The injury fortunately, is not serious, although Miss Salek is suffering acutely from shock.
