MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting- of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the Board’s office last night. Present: Messrs F. S. Easton (chairman) W.-E. Barber and J. Chvystall. Leave of ab sence was granted Mr A. King. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received from Mr J. Linklater, M.P., stating that if ihe Board now wished to purchase a worker's dwelling in-st.-u.l of erecting one, it would he necessary to make another Special Order, advertise same for four weeks an.l then confirm it, and forward same on to the Superintendent of Stale Advances. —Received From the Board's solicitors, Messrs Moore and Bergin, giving an opinion that the Board cannot interfere with private drains until actually taken over by the Board. —Received.

It was decided to abandon the idea of jmrehasing a dwelling for the Board’s foreman, and to proceed under the Order-in-Council already granted, with the erection of a worker's dwelling, and to raise a short-dated loan locally to carry out the work.

In order to provide the security for the loan, the Board passed the following motion, moved by Mr W. 10. Barber, seconded hv Mr F. S. Easton: “That in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the “Local Bodies Loan Act, 1918,” the Moutoa Drainage Board hereby resolves as follows: ‘That for the purpose of providing interest and other charges on a loan of £BOO authorised to be raised by the Moutoa Drainage Board, under the above-mentioned Act. for the erection of a worker’s dwelling, the said Mouloa Drainage Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of one-sixteenth of a pen hv in tin- £ upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the Moutoa Drainage Board District, and that such special rate shall lie an annual recurring rate, during the currency of tin- loan and shall he payable yearly on the Ist day of April, in each and every year, during (lie currency of such loan, being a period of 28 years or until the loan is fully paid oft’.’ ”
