A Palmerston North wireless amateur was instructing his wife in the linest points of listening in the other evening, says the Manawatu Times. Then she became all excitement and exclaimed: "Tin sure 1 am listening to America for 1 can hear a chewing sound.” An instance of the "push” of the American is given by Hr Pope, of Palmerston North, who has returned from a visit to America. He slates that after getting cleared at the Customs he engaged a taxi to take him to a hotel named. The taxi-driver asked to be excused for a moment, and returned a iittie later with a pleasant companion, who explained mat lie was the projijietor of another hostelry, and that he was certain, if the visitors would only allow hun to "take care of them,” and allow his wife to show them over the hotel, the New Zealanders would alter their plans concerning hotels. iSo persuasive was tne man that the visitors agreed to inspect tiie place, and tUe result was very satisfactory to all concerned.

Canterbury will export over one million eggs Lins season. Over one quarter of this number has already neon shipped and still supplies are an umlaut, and bakers are obtaining then 1 orders at a lower rate than last year. Though one and a half million eggs wer© exported last year 1 there was a very large quantity carried over into this season, lhe Canterbury Co-operative Poultry Producers, Ltd., has sold its summer output for export at a higher price than is ruling locally.
