FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.
The annual general meeting of members of the Foxton Bowling Club was r he.ld in the .supper-room of the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. The attendance was .very satisfactory, and a great.deal of important business was' transacted, those present showing enthusiastic interest in club matters. The annual report, as published in our issue of Saturday, was taken as. read, and the balance-sheet was adopted after being read and dealt with. /-\o .. r AlrJ. M. Ban- was elected president for the ensuing year, Mr C. A. Pearson declining nomination in his favour, thus making a ballot unnecessary. Mr jno. Ross, who by percedence, was the president-elect, wrote, apologising for his absence from the meeting, and stating his regret in having to decline nomination for private reasons. In relinquishing the chair, Mr Christie, the retiring president, returned thanks for the assistance he had received from members of the Committee during the year and referred to the harmonious way in which the business of the Club had been conducted during his term. Mr Ban-, in taking the chair thanked the meeting for electing him to the position of president, and said that during his term of office he would do his utmost to further the welfare of the Club. The following vice-presidents were elected: —Messrs Jno. Ross, A. N. Smith and Rev. W. H. Walton. The committee elected was as follows: —Messrs Christie, Head, Winstanley, Downes and Nye. Mr E. Huntley was re-elected secretarv and treasurer, the retiring president and auditor expressing appreciation of the way in which the secretarial duties had been carried .out during tlie past term. Mr Hnntlev, in returning thanks, eulogised (lie enthusiasm shown for the welfare of (he Club by Mr Christie, and the consistent way invwhich lie had worked for the furtherence of its interests.
Mr D. Whibley was again elected green superintendent, a position which lie lias now filled for a number of years, appreciative reference being made to the good work Mr Whibley continues to carry out.
Messrs Smith and Nye were appointed delegates to the Centre. The question of appointing.selectors and handicappers was very freely discussed, and it was resolved that a committee of three be appointed for this purpose, the following being elected by ballot: Messrs Barr, Nye and Huntley.
Mr T. W. Winstanley was appointed auditor for the year.
Correspondence was read from the Northern Bowling Club, inviting the Club to be represented at the official opening of their green on Wednesday, October Ist; also from the Dunedin North and Leith Amenities Society, intimating that the drawing of their-art union has been postponed until October 25th. The following new members were elected: —-Messrs S. Head. M. E. Perreau, E. Mason, .T. McKeown, R. McMullian, IT. Homblow, A. Starve, A. Smith, H. Nixon. Mr Trueman was elected an honorary member.
The question of the classification of players was brought before the meeting and promoted a good deal of interesting discussion. Finally, on the motion of Mr A. N. Smith, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the new committee that for the purposes ; of play in club competitions, members be graded ps *A” and “B” and that in'Club games not more than two. “A” players be allowed in any one rink.
The matter of making a rink challenge trophy of the Wiilford Cup was the subject of a motion by Mr Nye. As an amendment, Mr Barr proposed that this trophy be allotted for pairs competition. The meeting, after the various aspects of the question had been gone into, decided in favour of the Cup being made a rink trophy. In. order to convenience the cleriIsahend of the club’s affairs, and allowbf reasonable time between the closing of the accounts and the annual general meeting, and also to allow of the annual meeting being held earlier iu the year, it was resolved that in future the financial year end on the 30th June, and that the annual meeting be held in July of each year. 0 ... On the motion of Mr A. N. Smith, it was resolved that the annual subscription for' ordinary members be Mfi'Winstanlcy moved an amendment that the subscription for ordinary members be £2 15/- per annum, payable half yearly, same -to'include"boxes and insurance on bowls. The increase in subscriptions was unanimously supported, members being of opinion that such increase was necessary for the proper conduct of the club. The moderate amount .of the subscription, even with the increase of 10/-, m comparison with that of other bowhng clubs, was stressed by the president. , , it w as resolved that the Club green be officially opened on the loth October. „ A vote of thanks to the Press was passed on the motion of Mr A N. Smith, and a similar compliment to the chair concluded the meeting. The enthusiastic spirit displhye among members present augurs we for a successful season and it is confidently expected that this yeai will see an increase in the number of active members of the club. At the annual general meeting of the Palmerston Jf. Club on Tues-' day, Mr G. H. Trott was elected • president. After a lengthy and exhaustive discussion it was decided 'that the subscription rates be fixed
