ACCIDENT AT AWAHURI BUTTER FACTORY.
Through an explosion of methylalafod spirits at the Awahuri butter factory on Sunday afternoon a young man named William Smith wa.s seriously burned about the face, arms and feet.
Smith went into the testing room of the factory to get some methylated spirits. Tt is not known what happened, hut heat in some form must have ignited the fumes and the four gallon tin burst info fin me right in the face of the unfortunate man. The room was soon enveloped in flames and the victim, in his agony, rushed to one of the doors, but apparently forgot which way it opened, and being nnnhle to got out he rushed back through the flames to the other door, thus increasing his own hurt. When assistance came, Smith wns found to bo very severely burned about the face. The arms right up to the elbows and the feet also were badly affected.
The victim was admitted to the Palmerston N. Hospital where he is reported to be progressing favourably. His parents reside at Woodville.
