The first observatory was built at Greenwich in 1070, then a little riverside* village many miles from London. A house at Richmond, London, rented at £72 a year, was converted into Hats and is now bringing in £344 a year. The London County Council has schemes for the clearance of eight slum areas involving an expenditure of £757,000. An aviator recently reported that London’s smoke extended forty miles north west of the city in a. cloud 1,500 ft. high. Three hundred miles an hour is the speed aimed at by builders of aeroplanes; the present record is about 200 miles an hour. Reputed to be the most married man in the world, a Chinaman has recently gone to London. He has 29 wives. Land belonging to the City ot London outside its own area nmounts to 0,518 acres, the largest single piece being Epping Forest, with 5,347 acres. The rays of the sun takes eight minutes to reach our earth. Iheie arc stars so distant that their light must travel for 30,000 years before we see it.
