A tragic occurrence at Plum Tree in Rhodesia, resulted in the death of Edward Power, a former he; dnmster at Whangarei. New Z a!;>ml. He came to South Africa two years ago and engaged in teaching. Later, owing to his suffering from neuritis, he went fanning at Plum Tree. The report states that, in a 111 of jealousy, Power shot and wounded his wife, who escaped by a window and took refuge with neighbours. He then set fire to the house and perished in the flames.

Deceased was a wellknown figure in howling circles, having skipped teams in Auckland and if 'u nion tournaments on numerous ci-a i> ;s. His father was a well-known hotelkeeper at Paeroa, and Waihi for many years, and a brother, the late Bert Power, was formerly Mayor of Waihi.
