MOST MARRIAGES OX WEDNESDAYS. So far ns llio British Navy is concerned, Friday cannot be considered an unlucky day (writes T.B.C. in the Daily Mail). It was on Friday, June 13, 1653, that Van Tromp’s fleet was smashed off the North Foreland. Blake won his greatest victory on Friday, April 20, 1657, and on Friday, July 30, 1770, the American Fleet was defeated off the coast of New England. Rodney’s great victory over the French occurred on Friday April 12, 1782, and on Friday, September 13, of the same year the British Fleet destroyed the combined French and Spanish fleets in the Bay of Gibralter. A Friday saw the raising of the long siege of Gibralter, and, although Trafalgar was fought on a Monday, it was on the previous Friday that the French admiral made the fatal decision to come out and give battle. Friday, again, is America’s lucky day. Columbus sailed on a Friday, discovered America on a Friday, and returned on a Friday. The Mayflower made her landing on a Friday, and George Washington was born on a. Friday. It was on a Friday that Bnrgoyne surrendered, and on the same day of the week that Cornwallis was forced to surrender. On Friday, July 7, 1776, John Adams made the Declaration of Independence. Friday is supposed to be the, worst: day of the week for the theatre, yet in point of fact Monday is the day when audiences are most difficult to please. On land Tuesday is decidedly the most unlucky day. Looking over the various lists of disasters, such as tires, accidents and crimes, T find that Tuesday shows a distinct preponderance in this respect. Til one respect Saturday is the worst day, for it is on the last day of the week that most crimes of violence are committed. Monday is the worst day for tradesmen. Butchers, green-grocers, fishmongers, commercial travellers, and hawkers all agree to this point. Saturday is the worst for drapers and chemists, tint, oddly enough, Thursday for grocers. Wednesday is wedding day, more marriages being celebrated" on that day than on .inv other day of the week.
