A HAMILTON SENSATION.
f VICTIM' OF ALLEGED ASSAULT DTES. POISON FOUND ON DECEASED SETTLER. Hamilton, August 14. The Te Rore settler, Charles Ricliflale, who was found in his house on July 7, badly injured as a result of a blow on the head, leading to Frank- Garrett, a neighbouring farmer being later committed for trial on n charge of actually causing bodily harm ,became suddenly ill and died on Wednesday evening at his sisters ‘home in Paterangi. The deceased appeared in Court a fortnight ago and gave evidence incriminating Garrett. He had seemingly quite recovered, but on Wednesday afternoon he became ill and semi-conscious, dying during the evening before medical aid could arrive. A message from Te Awamutu stairs that a post mortem examination showed that death was not due to the injury Richdale had sustained. A buttle of strychnine was found in one of deceased’s pockets, and the contents of the stomach had been sent to Wellington for analysis. About £BOO in cash had been found on deceased’s person.
