POACHING WHITEBAIT.
POLICE CAPTURE NETS,
There is a stream near the Heads which empties into the Manawalu. from which persons are prohibilcd from netting whitebait. It is considered a good posse and tempi s persons to indulge in illicit netting. Constables Owen and Ryan paid a surprise visit to the sanctuary yesterday, hut (lie scouts from the sand dunes, observed them and gave warning to those on the bank of the stream, who hurriedly scuttled out of sight before the arrival of the officers, leaving their nets, the carrying of which would have liampc:ed their departure and probably led to court proceedings. The nets were, confiscated, one being of very fine workmanship. The raid was carried on! hv motor ear but the scoul got a view of thp car from his elevated position in time to make good the escape of the party.
