FOOTBALL.

CHANGE TO LEAGUE EOT OFFICIATiLY DISCUSSED.

MR. .TACK REPLIES TO “RUGBYTTE.”

, In conversation with Messrs S. Austin and IT. Hutchins. Foxton delegates to the Horowhenua Rugby Union, our representative was informed that the published statement in connection with local Rugby teams going over to the League game was not discussed by the management committee as there was nothing official before the Union, The delegates agreed that there was a good deal of dissatisfaction expressed in Foxton against the centralisation of rep. games in Levin and in other matters governing the "•aine. So far as League was concerned .they were of the opinion that the agitation would die a natural death. They expressed the opinion that in order to put Rugby on a, more satisfactory basis, the district should be re-arranged. Their suggestion was a district comprising Levin, Foxton, Shannon, Tokon am and Rnngiotn and one or two clubs within this area. Referring to the League game, they said they did not think the gate money at such matches would be sufficient to meet players expenses. Another point was that any player who transferred to League would be disqualified for Rugby. .At a meeting of the senior members of the local football club on Thursday night the question of transferring to League was not discussed.

(To The Editor). Dear Sir. —Referring to “Rugbyile’s” questions and criticism re the formation of the Rugby League Centre here, T might say T was approached by lending senior and t junior players to get them full information re forming n League Centre here. As regards my letter not being-intended for publication, the Editor of the “Herald” can tell that ns soon as T knew of the article in the “Times” on Monday, I immediately went and gave him the copy so as lie could contradict same which lie did. As to the other questions, when “Rugbyite” comes out of his shell and discloses his name, it will be quite time enough to answer same. Judging by bis letter, be has never seen a game of Rugby League and I would ask him to ask any man in town who lias seen the game for bis opinion. I may also state that Ike public win always turn out to sec fast, open Rugby but not so the bull fights that have been staged this season. For “R-ng-bvite’s” information, we have . -a

good chance of having Canterbury and Wellington play here this season and failing that game, Wellington will send a team here. We have plenty of teams to start with in all grades and' when the players line out next season, “Rugbyite” will have his eyes opened as to the players who have consented to play, especially. outside of Foxton. As regards not being sports, I would refer “Rugbyite” to the miserable and dirty tactics which happened in Christchurch, and Dunedin, and also to AH Irvine’s opinion that the game in Dunedin was the best exhibition of Rugby he has ever seen. This, coming from a prominent Rugby man, is enough proof. Thanking you, sir, —I am, P. J. JACK.

NASH KNOCK-OUT COP.

RELINQUISHED BY FOXTON AS PROTEST.

At a meeting of the Foxton senior Rugby football team, the Holders of the . Nash Kuoek-out Cup, held on Thursday-evening, the following resolution was carried unanimously: “As a protest against the arbitrary methods adopted by the Horowhenua ltugby Union when drawing fixtures in connection with the Nash Cup .competition the Club will not take any part whatever in the competition; and it resolves that the trophy be forwarded to the headquarters of the Union.” The reason for the Club’s action is that the Union m drawing up the fixtures so arranged them that the Fox ton Club, although the hollers of the Cup, would be required to travel to meet its opponents. To this procedure the Club strongly objected.
