LARGEST SHEET OF PLATE GLASS.

The lfti’gesf sheet of plate glass in existnoe is at the Empire Exhibition, where it lias been erected for the world to gaze at and through. This mammoth window pane had an adventurous journey from Yorkshire to London. Being much too large for carriage by rail—for the sheet measures 1-1 ft by 24ff —it was transported in an enormous lorry towed by a steam tractor. A special route was mapped out for the journey, and many detours were necessary to avoid low bridges. One bridge was cleared by so small a margin that a match could barely have been inserted between the top of the crate and the masonry above. The area of this monster pane is 33(i sip ft. If laid flat on the ground, there would be ample room for a dozen couples to dance on it.
