Tn New Zealand there are 9G21 soldier settlers. Of these 5347 have made application for revaluations sc far. The hoard, though only set up last year, had finally determined 2(100 cases. The total reductions made in capital value amonnted to £541,004, and reductions in mortgages £289,203, or concessions in the aggregate of £830,327. In addition the hoard has made liberal concessions in respect of postponements of rent payments and complete remissions in certain eases. While fording the Waingawa river, Wairarapa, James Fouliy, a carting contractor, of Masterton, had a narrow escape from death, lie'was carting metal from the river and attempted to ford to the town side through the usual outlet. Three powerful horses were attached to the dray, hut the velocity of the current tossed the dray completely over and Mr Foully was thrown under and had it not been for the tailhoard being broken, bis escape would have been impossible as the drav was seciireh anchored. All Ihe horses were drowned.
