C. PORTER SELECTED. It is .announced that C. Porter, of Wellington is to captain the All Blacks, on the English torn - . Porter was appointed by the New Zealand Rugby Union, while J. Richardson, of Southland was given the position of vice-captain. 0. G. Porter* played his early football for the South Wellington School which was then high in the school championships. He was a school representative in lilt 3 and If) 14, and in 1915 he went to Wellington College. The following year lie was in the country and did not play, but in 1917 ho returned to Wellington and played for Old Boys. In 1918 he was unsettled, and .1919-20-21 was a Horowhenua representative both .junior and senior. There lie played a centre-threcqunr-fer. In 1923 he returned to Wellington and began playing the Athletic Club, captaining the senior team. After a few matches he was moved to wing-forward, as he proved too much of an individualist for the club selectors. At once he leapt into prominence and attained representative rank in this capacity, making a name for himself by his versatility and '.remarkable energy. Last season he was chosen to play against New South Wales in the third Test,, and this year was made captain of the North Island team for the first time, captaining it in its encounter with the South Island. Porter is 24 years of age, and weighs 12st 81b. J. Richardson is the well-known Southland player, aiid belongs to Waikiwi Club, Invercargill. He has represented Otago 1919-20-21, Southland 1922-23, met the Springboks in the three tests, played in Australia in 1922, when he scored seven tries and was captain of the New Zealand team which met New South Wjales in the first two tests last year. His weight is 14st 51b..
