FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT.
AFTER WEDDING CEREMONY. CAR GETS OUT OF CONTROL. ONE WOMAN KILLED, SEVER.' L OTHERS INJURED. Wellington, Last Night. A shocking accident occurred in the upper end of Dixon St. this afternoon. A crowd of wedding guests waiting outside the entrance gate of St. John’s Church, to gixct the bride and bridegroom, when one of the wedding ears standing further up the street, which is very steep and dangerous at this point, got out of control and ran down hill. Turning inwards and running on In the footpath at the kerb .it struck a body of guests, all women, and crashed onwards to a concrete wall. Miss Lillian Scatchard, aged 23 years, of 3 Lewisville Terrace. Wellington, was killed, and two others were injured more or less seriously. The injured include Mrs Witts (TVlone). Mrs Hall (Newton), Mrs Toomer and Airs F. Wheeler. The best man, Mr Collins, of Petone, and several others were slightly injured. The bride and bridegroom. Air and Mrs James Spence, had left by the first ear and it was the second car which got out of control. The bolting ear contained the best man, two bridesmaids and flower girl. It is presumed the driver released the brakes to follow the oilier ears and placed his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake. The ear dashed into the footpath, forty guests a moment before had l‘i cm showering confetti. Several were knocked down and crushed against the fence, and more nr less injured, it is believed the mechanism of the car had gone wrong. The injured were taken to the hospital..
