CHINA V. MANAWATU.
At the Palmerston N. Show grounds yesterday afternoon the Manawatu reps defeated China by a goal to nil. Portions of the ground were under water and while this did not seem to worry the hefty Manawatu team. it certainly spoil defeat for the Chinese and • poilt their scievitifu- footwork and ilful passing tactics. Tlte tricky -.eionl illc exhibition by the visitors was a treat to witness and they were (crtainly unfortunate in being called upon to indulge in water polo instead of soccer. There was as great a difference in the physique of«Hte two teams as there was in the tneties. It was the ground that beat the Chinese in yeserday’s game and the crowd recognised ibis fact.
The big soccer match, Dawbers (Palmerston N. v. Marist Brothers (Wellington), in the Chatham Cup Contest, to he played on Easton Park next Saturday, promises to attract a large crowd of spectators Seven of the players who represented Manawatu again-d China at Palmerston N. yesterday will he seen dt action against the eraek rilingj,,n team. Given a fine day the game will he the most spectacular yet seen b,callv. The kick-off is at 2.90 p.tn.
