The Manawatu-Horowlienun combination put up a great fight against the All Blacks. The display was disappointing as far as the All Blacks were concerned. In a. way there was reason for the All Blacks not rising to tlieir greatest possibilities. They were on the eve of departure for England, and had to guard against injury, which might deprive them of the trip: and the team as arranged for the match was in action for the first time. Steel Robilliard and Stewart, who did not make the trip to Sydney, were included and there were other variations from the previous arrangement of the team, Badeley, for instance, playing for the first time behind Dailey. There was nothing very decisive about the win by 27 points to 12. But while the exhibition was disappointing. there was no concent in tin minds of the onlookers as to the ability of the All Blacks. Taken nil through the game was a - poor advertisement for the old rules, and the decisions of the referee did not improve matters. Several players of the Manawatu--Horowhenua side were noticed in foiiimemtafile work —Law, Tahiwi, Carroll, M 1 Herron, Broughton and Moynihan.
