MYSTERIOUS ASSAULT CASE.

AND IS COMMITTED FOR TRIAL Auckland, July 24. At the Police Court, Maurice Burns Ward, aged 37, was charged that on June 4, he did assault Florence Bon If on, as to cause actual liodilv harm. A medical man stated that he was called to the house where Mrs Boulton, accused’s -widowed sister, was lying ill a pool of blond, with a fracture of the base of (lie skull. A ten-vear-okl son of Mrs Boulton said lie saw accused kneeling beside his mother knocking her head on the floor. Mrs Boulton, in the box. said when accused came home lie asked where his wife was. She did not remember receiving the injuries. She did not answer some of (lie Ohiof-Deteelive’s questions, and subsequently gave answers after some hesitation. Questioned regarding a statement to a detective she said she signed it but did not know what state she was in when she gave it.
Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence and was committed for trial, hail of £SOO being allowed.
