A GIFT OF A MILLION POUNDS TO WHOM?
(To the Editor). Sir. —The Government budget promises a rebate on income tax of one million pounds, a windfall for Mr Massey’s wealthy poltieal friends for that is what it means,-a million out of the public purse for the wool kings, squatters, wealthy banks and companies, monopolists and profiteers. but not a sixpence for the small farmer or small business man, or for the struggling workers whose incomes are too small to assess, but who indirectly bear the custom tax, which Mr Alassey increased last vear bv over a million, and which falls most heavily on the straggler and bis family. What right has Air Ala-ray to give away this million pounds of public money to his wealthy friends, who do not need it, while old age pensioners are expec led to live on a paltry 15/- a week, widows pensions are a miserable 7/6 a week, and thousands of blind people have no pension at all? Truly Mr Alassey is loyal to his rich friends who put him in office but the day of reckoning is coming; •liis capitalist government is sowing its seeds of iniquity and oppression but what will the harvest be? —I am eft-.,
P. L. HOLLIXGS. Sir. —Can yin inform me why the Borough Council demanded that certain taxi owners had to disfigure their cars by painting F.B.C. and iho registered number on theni while other cars plying for hire are let off? Yours etc. FAIR PLAY.
