AUCKLAND DEFEATS ALL BLACKS. BY 14 POINTS TO 3. i Auckland, Last Night. ■ The AlLßhtrks gave a disappointing.' display against Auckland today. .The ground was heavy and the play principally forward. The All Blacks forwards were beaten consistently, for the ball'in the scrams and there was a lack of enterprise among the backs, though fed by the forwards from line-outs and the loose. The movements were, in the majority of cases, across the field, this being due only partly to solid tackling. The All Blacks’ defence in the first half was weak, hut in (lie second spell-they held Auckland. The local forwards gave the. backs more support, especially on defence, than'did the New Zealand vanguard. The first score went to the All Blacks. From a passing bout, C. Brownlie look the final transfer and scored near the corner, Nepia’s kick failed.

The Auckland Jjacks showed good combination, the hall travelling to .N. Tfwerson, who crossed unopposed. IC. Tfwerson failed with the kick. Soon after, from a forward rush, McWilliams transferred to Leary, who scored, Tfwerson converting. The All Black forwards then attacked, Hart being tackled twice in succession just on the line. K. Ifwer : son landed a fine penalty. Tn a hot melee, Lomas dived over, but K. Tfwerson failed to convert. The half-lime score was 14 —3. The second spell saw play chiefly confined to the forwards, with occasional flashes by the backs. Bade- . ley, Brown and Lucas dashed to the local 25, where Nepia potted fruitlessly. The. Auckland dashes were held, and the All Blacks forced. An opening made by K. Tfwerson failed bv faulty handling, and the game ended, Auckland 14, All Blacks 8. Next Tuesday the''All Blacks sail for England by the Remuera. At Master!on yesterday, Wairarapa defeated Bush District by 43 points' to 3. N.Z. V. MAN AW ATU -HOR 0 - WHENTIA. ALL BLACKS MATCH SATURDAY.

Saturday will be a red-letter day for Rugbyites in Manawatu district and for that matter many other districts for niiles around. Many people have witnessed the New Zealand 1924 trials and seen most of the New Zealand players, but not as a team. Apart from Wednesday’s game at Auckland, no other centre in New Zealand but Palmerston N. will have the opportunity of seeing the side which as a result of its

New South Wales tour, has now developed into a wonderful Rugby combination. While many would have liked the opposition to have been the Rest of New Zealand or for the basis-to have been widened in some direction, t}ie fact remains that nearly everybody wants to see the All Blacks. If the combined team holds its own, or otherwise does well, so much the better. It is too much to hope for a repetition of Ihe combined team’s historic effort of 1921. But Mr Jas. Ryan has made up his mind to put the fifteen into the field as fit as it humanly possible. He is a tactician of the highest order, and with his knowledge of international rugby conditions * can be depended to send his men out with the best possible chance of making a good game of it. No one thought for a moment that the combine of 1921 would hold the famous Springboks. As the match will commence at 1 o’clock, the attending public will be wise to be early as the gates open at 11.30 a.m. There have already been a thousand more seats reserved for Saturday’s match than for the Springboks match on Wednesday, August 17th, 1921..
