ALLEGED GAMBLING HOUSE.
RAIDED IN AUCKLAND.
Auckland. July 17
A mild sensation was caused in Hobson St. last night when detectives raided a large hoarding house known as Marlborough House, in which it was suspected organised gambling was being carried on. The raiding force found the proprietor, John, B. Baklich, in the doorway and hustled him into a Small room. On the third floor they found, a long baize covered table, round which 27 men sat watching the operations of nine of their number with a pair nf dice. . There was a rush for the exit but the detectives held the key to the position. Some players managed to gain access to adjoining rooms but being unable In reach the fire escapes they had perforce to wait until the detectives had time to round them up. Motors were obtained and 28 men were taken to the police station, where they were charged, Baklich with keeping a common gaming house and the remainder with being found in a common gaming house. Baklich was granted bail of £IOO and the remainder £5 each.
