CHOIR CONTEST.

FIRST-CLASS MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT.

The first of the two tests between the Foxton and Levin choirs took place in the Town flail on Tuesday evening before a fair and keenly appreciative audience. Both choirs were accorded heart\ applause both before and aflt-r tin- rendering of their tes| nieces. The judge was )\. R. Don F-ij., of Dunedin, a talented and i-xiM-riem-et! choir conductor and adjudicator and his notes will he awaited with considerable interest after the final decision is given at Levin to-morrow night. The Iwo conductors, Messrs Harold Osborne (Foxt.m) and Howard Andrew- (Levin) are to be congratulated upon the efforts of their respective choirs which indicated careful training. The Ta-vin choir possessed the greater volume while the interpretations „f the selection- indicated tt temperamental difference. Af the conclusion the judge complimented both choir- and conductors on tlo-ir performances and referred to the educational value of sttcli contests, which were worthy of public encouragement. The singing of the “Gloria" by llte combined choir- under the baton of the judge, was a splendid finale. The Mayor (Art John Ciirystall) moved a vote of thanks to the choirs, conductors and judge, followed by i-liccr- for the competitors. The te-j pieces were: “King of Kings” (antltem); “Fierce Raged the Tempest” (hymn): and "Send out Thy Light.” (anthem). At the conclusion the visitors were entertained at supper by the Church and were accorded a hearty \vle of thanks by the Rev. -I. D. AleArihur. During the evening musical and vocal item- were rendered by Aliss Shaw and Ales-rs Howard Andrew and Hunter (all of Levin).
