£3,000 IN BONDS BURNED.
After hiding £3,000 worth of bonds in a chimney Mr and Mrs Tillore of' Clermont-Ferrand, left for Paris to attend the elections. One of their nephews was a candidate. The would-be Deputy happened to he leaving for Clermont Ferrand, and he asked his relatives if lie could occupy one of their pooins. The candidate received a reply in the affirmative. His first step upon reaching Clermont-Ferrand was to light a fire. Fate willed it should be in the very chimney where the bonds were hidden. Mr and Mrs Talere learned of their loss by letter when their nephew wrote and informed them that their chimney contained charred pieces of Bons de la Defense Rationale.
