PROBATION IN PERJURY CHARGE.
Auckland, July 9. At the Supreme Court to-day, Edward Welsh, a half-easte'Mnori, was placed on probation for two years for perjury. Mr Justice Stringer said it was „„t a bad ease. The prisoner had adhered to a statement that he was in a billiard-room, when the evidenshowed that he wa- in a street. The case arose out of a charge of playing "two-up.” Godfrey Addington Fleet Otway, awed 22, and a youth of 21, were each placed on probation for two wars and ordered to pay £l3 4/4 each for breaking, entering and theft at the Mnremtu Post Office two years ago. Otway was ordered to find a surety of £IOO for his good behaviour. llis accomplice’s name was suppressed, because he played a minor part.
