The Government, adopted iln- recommendation but have delayed taking action until a comprehensive ‘ report upon t;lie whole railway system of the Dominion is submitted to the House. The Mayor of Palmerston North, accompanied by Mr J. A. Nash, M.P. waited upon the Minister (lion. J. G. Coates) in connection with the matlei this week. Mr Nathan pointed out that a number of borough works were held up because of the uncertainty of the position, and he desired that if possible. the Minister should state definitely the Government’s intentions.

ITon. J, G. Contes, in reply, said that no information whatever had been made public outside of Cabinet. A lengthy report had been prepared on the various works under consideration, including the Rimutaka scheme, the Tawa Flat proposal, Lyttelton Tunnel, and, of course, Palmerston North’s deviation. Cabinet however, had not yet considered this report, and therefore, i:o decision had been arrived at.

In reply to a further question by Mr Nathan, the Minister said that he could not make a statement for about two months.
