MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The Manawatu County Council met at Sandon on Tuesday,Sir James Wilson presiding. There were also present Crs. H. H. Hunt. W. E. Barber, J. Boyce, W. S. Penny, H. J. Fagan and J. F. McKelvie. The Council decided to endorse a resolution from the Waikato County Council reading as follows: — “That the Government be urged to consider the necessity of amending existing legislation so ns to enable local bodies to obtain sufficient loans from the State Advances Office, for the purpose of Main Highways Act and other such development work.”

The matter of purchasing a dump truck was held oyer until the nqxt meeting when a decision will be arrived at.

Cr. Barber and the engineer were appointed to deal with the request of Mr S. A. Wallis for better drainage on Bench road, Foxton. Tn connection with the complaint of Mr W. Parrott as to the condition of (train Drain road at Rangithe Councillor for the riding and the engineer reported that there was no danger and no action was taken.

The secretary of the Dairy Farmers' Union, Oroua Downs, wrote requesting that improvements he made to surroundings at Oroua. Downs siding, and pointing out that the shed was over-run with rats. The clerk pointed out that the sooner goods were removed the sooner the rat nuisance would he abated. The engineer was instructed to arrange for improvement to the surroundings. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT The traffic inspector reported that he had spent a good deal of time in attending to the heavy traffic lorries. So far twelve licenses had been taken out. and there were five informations against four persons to be dealt with on Thursday (to-day) at the Feilding Court for having conducted heave traffic without first

taking out a license. Since last meeting six offenders for speeding at Sanson were dealt with at Bulls Court and fines ranging from 10/to 20/- were inflicted. At the Feilding Court, one offender against the heavy traffic by-law was fined 20/nml seven offenders for allowing stock to wander were fined from 5/- !■> .till;'- each. Seven offenders for

The Countv engineer reported as followsIvawa Knwa Riding:—Councillor Boyce and the engineer met the River Board engineer, Mr Ilay, and Mr Wilton with reference to the willows growing on the hanks of the Oroua at Rangiotu, and also made an inspection of the. willows growing on the hanks of the Mangawhata and Rongotea-Tirtnghurn bridges. It was pointed out that the Mangawhata bridge was not under the Manawatu Comity’s control and that (In* County was only responsible for the willows at the, Rongotea bridge, which will he cut at an early date. Levels had been taken and the work of a stop-bank IF chains long from Dinaldson’s bridge on the Main Drain road, which tin* Drainage Board deemed urgent and essential work for the protection of the road during Hood time had been plotted out.
