THE GISBORNE CASE.
—.—-—t PLAINTIFF SECURES £1,500 DAMAGES. .. NEW TRIAL SOUGHT. Gisborne, June 2b. In the Supreme Court in the ease oP>lvy Bell Carr v. Lionel Clare, claim for £5,000 damages for alleged assault, the jury, after three hours’ deliberation, returned a nine to three verdict for the plaintiff for £1,500 and recommended that the money be invested with the Public Trustee for the benelit of Mrs Carr. Mr Justice Salmond said that' no order to that effect could be made and he entered judgment for £l,500 with costs according to scale. Counsel for defendant intimated that he intended moving for a new trial.
