ALLEGED SERIOUS OFFENCE.
—♦- SCHOOLMISTRESS CLAIMS £5,000. Gisborne, Last Night. A sensational ease is nflw occupying the attention of Sir John Salinond and a common jury. The schoolmistress at YV aikohu, Ivy Bell Carr, is suing Lionel Clare, a coal and .shipping merchant, for £5,000 damages. The statement, of claim alleges that Clare tricked plaintiff Carr into visiting his home, where he -gave her a drink which rendered her hnconscious, and had sexual intercourse with her, as a "result of which-her health was seriously affected, as she was at the time in a weak state, she cently been in hospital. Plaintiff also alleges that her career has been ruined, and that she has sui-, fered agony of mind by reason oi the shame attached to the assault* und has felt compelled to separate herself from 'her husband. Plaintiff was under cross-examination when the Court adjourned.
