FOXTON FIRE BOARD.
ANNUAL MEETING. The .annual meeting of the Fox--lon Fire Board was held at the fire station yesterday. There were present: Messrs J. K. Horublow (chairman), Geo. Coley, A. X T . Smith, F. C. Cray, Irvine, and Rowe. The brigade superintendent (Mr 11. Hamer) was also in attendance. An apologv for absence was received from Mr R. Bryant. CHAIRMAN. Mr Horn blow said that as this was the annual meeting, the election of chairman was the first business and lie had pleasure in nominating Mr Cray. In doing so he referred to Mr Cray's special qualifications and (he enthusiasm and interest he had evinced in the welfare of the Board since its inception. Probably no other man had had such a wide experience in lire board administration and he felt sure that under his chairmanship the Board would function jo the advantage of fhe brigade and district. The nomination was seconded by Mr A. X. Smith and Mr Cray was imanimonslv elected.
In taking his seat, Mr Cray thanked members for the confidence expressed and for the out-going chairman’s eulogy. He would endeavour In do his best in the interests of the Board and district. In this he felt bo would have the hearty cooperation of members. The town bad shown wisdom and enterprise in sanctioning a Fire Board. During the past 25 or 30 years considerable fire losses had been incurred locally. Now that the town was equipped with up-to-date tire fighting appliances and an efficient brigade, public property would be protected against loss and fire risks minimised. Good work had already been accomplished by the Board and the initial difficulties overcome. His object would be to do bis best in the interests of .Board and town. (A pplauso). GENERAL. Inspector Hugo’s report on bis recent inspection of the station and brigade and which contained certain recommendations v/as read and ndopted. Resolved to purchase through the Internal! Affairs Department 500 ft. of hose of the best quality, to arrive in December. If was pointed nut that the brigade had 900 ft. of hose at present.
It was decided to purchase two scats for the social room and to offer the chemical engine for sale to the Beach Improvement Commit - lee.
The brigade’s election of a member was endorsed and the Superinli nden! urged to keep the memberchip up t<> iis fail quota. The brigade’s request for ;i first id outfit was agreed to and instmein,ns open for purchase of same. !i wns decided to obtain rules governing' (lie billiard table and control of room from the Levin Board [mil, if acceptable, to adopt same and have them printed and bung in the room.
Resolved lo deposit .-inking fund with the Wellington Trust. Loan and Invest men I Co.
The balance-sheet for the year was read and adopted subject to audit, and when printed to be circulated to contributors. The estimates for the current year were considered at length and tiuallv adopted, the total commitments being £OO4 19/11, as against £059 15, 2 last year.

A ceoqnts,. totalling .Cllt> 1/2 were passed for payment. The ballot for insurances for the vear were in favour of the Alliance Australia and Royal Exchange offices.
It was decided to serve fencing notices on the owners of sections adjoining the station. Several other routine matters were attended to and certain iccommendations conveyed to the Superintendent.
