SCHOOL AFFAIRS.
DDSGUSBED BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
At Thursday’s meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce Mr R. McMurray introduced matters in connection with the local State school. He asked why the position of headmaster had been turned down by certain of the applicants"/ There must be some reason for this, ius said, and the delay in making the appointment was not in the best interests of the children or staff. Mr Hornblow (chairman of the school committee) explained the method of appointment and sa id' there was no compulsion on the part of those applying to take up the position. The delay in the circumstances, was unavoidable. The school, however, was fortunate in possessing such a capable first assistant (Air Davidson) to carry on in the meantime, but he assured the Chamber that the Board was doing its best to meet the situation.
