BOXING.
In n professional boxing contest at Napier on Saturday night, Eugene V'olaire gained the verdict over Lin Robinson, who retired at the close of the eighth round on account of a cut over the right eye. Robinson was leading by one on the referee’s points and Volume has offered to halve the purse.
Georges Carpentier has been matched with -Timmy Slattery of Buffalo, in a sixround light heavyweight contest at Buffalo on August 4. It is stipulated that Cnrpentier shall fight none other previously except Gene Tunney. Billy Gibson manager for Tunney, has announced tentative arrangements with M. Descamps for fifteen rounds between Tunney and ■Carpentier in mid-July in the open air stadium at New York. Formal articles will be signed on Monday.
At the Sydney Stadium, after an interesting contest, Billy Grime defeated “Digger” Evans in five rounds, the latter’s seconds throwing in the towel after he had been floored six times.
At Melbourne. Bert McCarthy defeated Paul Demsky on points at the end of twenty rounds.
