MAIN HIGHWAYS.
No. 9 DISTRICT
The following have been declared main highways in the No. 9 district. Associated with the pronouncement is the scheme of “Government Roads,” which involves the principle that the State will assist financially in the construction and maintenance of roads hitherto under the administration of local authorities,- but which do not, under the highways scheme, come at once within the “highways” provisions of the Highways Act. — Auckland-Wellington, via Taranaki. From Ngahanranga through
Jolmsonville, Porirua, Pahuatanui, Pnokaknriki, Waikiinae, Otaki, Levin, Foxton, Sanson, to Rangitikoi River. Wellington-Napier Road (via Wairarapn) from northern boundary of Lower Haft, through Trenthnin, Tipper llutt, Kaitoki, to summit: of Rimulakas. HimataugiSanson (via Palmerston North) from Auekhmd-Wellington Road, through Orona Bridge, Longhorn, Palmerston North, Awalmri, to Sanson. Palmerston N.-Napier Road, from northern boundary of Palmerston N. to eastern boundary of Oroua County, Awahuri-(Treatford (via Fcilding). Fcilding-Ashhurst (via Bnnnythorpe), Foxfon-Shan-non (via Mon ion), Ashhurst-Poh-angina (via Raumai), Feilding-Man-gn widen, through Cheltenham, Kimbolton, Rangiwhia, to Rangitikoi River, at western boundary of Kiwitea. County. Feildiug-Stanwav (via. Makino), Kimholton-Apiti, through counties of Kiwilea and Pohangina; Mount Stewart Road from Himatangi-Sanson Rd. to AwahuriG rent-ford Road, via Fcilding. Levin - Palmerston North, through Shannon, Tokomnru. Linton, and Fitzherbert Bridge. To the main highways the hoard will contribute £1 tor £2 in the case of maintenance, and £1 for £l. in the case of construction. The Tlorowhemm County Council 1 1 as already scheduled (he work to he done on the main highways throout their County and have applied for the loan money.
The Uanavvatu County Council is formulating its schedule of work and arranging for finance. The above declared routes will dear up any misconception as.to Foxton being side tracked.
