WELLINGTON TRAGEDY
CORONER'S VERDICT
Wellington, Last Night. At the conclusion of the preliminary hearing of the charge of murder against .Joseph Barnes, until recently employed as a cook at a private hotel in JBoulcott Street, the depositions of the various witnesses were re-sworn for the purposes of the inquest. The Magistrate briefly reviewed the evidence and stated that there appeared to have been trouble over a woman. A tight had taken place, and in the course of a scuffle Wliall bad received a wouud. His finding would lie: That deceased was killed by being stabbed in the groin with a knife by Joseph Barnes, of Wellington. during the course of a scuffle between the two men in a passageway off Boulcott St., A cllington, on the evening of May 1, lt>24.
