The Nautical Court gave judgment this morning in the inquiry regarding Die wreck of the Xgaliere til Greymouth on Alay 1. They exonerated the master and officers of the vessel. Captain Green had made fill reasonable enquiries as well as an inspection. The Harbourmaster, (''aplain Cox, bad assured the master of the Xgaliere that there was .sufficient water bn the bar. When tin Regains struck the fact was signalled to the signal station-and communicated to the harbourmaster, who' did not inform Ihe master of the Xgaliere and allowed the vessel to go nut without further sounding to verify iho depth of water on the bar.
The Court was of the opinion that llie Harbourmaster committed a serum- error of judgment. The-Court therefore exonerated tiie captain and officers from any blame for the disaster.
