ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AT SEASIDE.
A report was received from the llorowheniia Electric Bower Board •eintive to the efforts made to link up the houses at the beach with the electric light system. An endeavour had been made to book up an annual revenue of approximately £2OO. hut the result of several days’ work had only prudiu-ed 20 consumers, many having only one and two light installations. The canvasser had reported that he had experieneed difficulty in getting into com - mntiication with the owners "t houses owing to their being non-re-sidents while a large number whom he had interviewed had considered a Hat rate charge of £3 per annum out of all reason when they only occupied the beach houses for two months in the year.
Despite the fact that a notice had keen posted on the beach advising that owners seeking information on the matter could leave their names at the post office and they would then be ealled upon, not one enquiry had been forthcoming. Owing to the poor response obtained and tilt? precarious nature of the subsequent payments for electricity, the engineer had formed the opinion at that .juncture that it would not. pay to continue canvassing when it. interfered so greatly with the canvassing and grouping of other centres more anxious to secure electrical supplies. Mr Hoi ben reported that a meeting of residents was to be held relative to the matter. He anticipated little difficulty in complying with the requirements of the board, between :>0 and 40 owners having already signed up.
It was decided to reply informing the Horowlienua Board of the position, Hie secretary to- obtain the necessary forms for signature.
