MILITARY TRAINING

REFRESHER AT RACECOURSE

FOR LOCAL CADETS AND TERRITORIALS.

During the past week 27 local Cadets and Territorials have been undergoing a course of training at the local racecourse under Captain Stewart and Sergeant-Major Henry, of Palmerston N. military headquarters.

In .conversation with Captain Stewart, our representative was informed that the “refresher” consists of musketry instruction, physical drill and general military training. There wore 1(5 cadets and 11 territorials oil parade, being those who missed the last annual camp held in July of last year. The camp, which commenced on Monday, terminated to-day. Under the new scheme of military tr .oining which is compulsory for all youths up to the age of 23, six days’ continuous training frees them for the rest of the year. Under the old system weekly night parades were compulsory. This scheme is far better for all concerned.
