FAREWELL MESSAGE TO NAVAL SQUADRON.

The following wireless message was sent to Vice-Admiral Sir Frederick Filed by the Govemor-Gener-al : —“You leave behind yon ineffaceable and most pleasant memories. The children of New Zealand, especially, have seen something of that naval power which has afforded protection in the past and which will give them security in the future. They are never likely to forget the deep impression made. Apart from its educational aspect, the visit, too, will have strengthened the Imperial tie and promoted that unity so essential to our welfare.’ Auckland skies and weather yesterday, in their attempt to delay the departure of the Special Service Squadron, gave the impression of the feelings of the New Zealanders. On behalf of the Government and people, T send the warmest good wishes for continued success in the important mission of the squadron and a lpippv l-etum Home.” A wireless message from the Vice-Admiral Field to Lord Jellieoe was received as follows: “Tn the name of the Special Service Squadion. T beg to thank you for the most, generous and inspiring message you have sent on Sohalf of the Government and people of New Zealand. The kindness, courtesy and loyalty of the people have been an education to us, no less than the presence of the squadron has given them the opportunity of realising the importance of naval defence if the security of the Empire is to be preserved. We leave with many regrets but with the sure knowledge of having made many friends, whose kindness will be remembered for the rest of our lives.”
