A DESERVING LOCAL SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of (he Foxton iroi'licull oral Society will be held lhis evening, when it is hoped all who are interested in promoting its welfare w ill endeavour to be present. The objects of the society should appeal to all lovers' of beautiful surrounding-*. The society seeks io stimulate through , its annual shows the cultivation of choice I,looms, ami flowering plants and also encourage." all branches of liortieuliure. Encouragement is given to certain hrauehes of home science including cookery, art' and plain sewing, decorations, etc. Apart from this prizes are given for the best kept cottage gardens.
There can he no two opinions as to the beneficial results which have l'ol'owed in the train of the society's hetivilies and the society can justly claim to he an educational and valuable asset to the town. That being so, it naturally follows that it is entitled to a much greater share of public support than, we regret to stae, is accorded it. The same few willing enthusiasts carry mi year after year and unless other.- in the community are prepared to lend a helping hand, there is a possibility that the society may become moribund. II is therefore hopmi that there will he a good attendance at to-night's meeting as a mark of appreciation and encouragement t<» the executive to carry on their good work.
