NO GOVERNMENT GRANT TO LOCAL BODIES.
A ’miter received by the Shannon Borough Council from Mr J. Link- , tm. M.f.. makes it clear'that the fiovenmaiii will give no financial assistance towards repairing the ■ '.a mage done to by heavy traf- ... dm tug the strike period. Mr Linkbter stated that he had placed the matter before the Public Work- Department who had informed low that no grants were being made by the Government at present .a respect n> damage done to roads ••y tin- extraordinary traffic caused through the railway strike. The I >epartmom had helped local bodies ia every possible manner during the -trike by lending lorries, rollers and other equipment, but could not grant monetary assistance. If it is decided later that counties and boroughs shall be assisted iu this manner, the writer will see that Shannon Borough shall have its due consideration. A letter is to be forwarded to Mr Liuklater thanking him for his efforts.
