RELIGIOUS FANATICS DIE
PHYSICIAN'S NOT WANTED.
At Lebanon, in Pennsylvania, disease has made terrible ravages among the members of the Eaitli of (lie Tabernacle, a small religious sect residing there, whose tenets provide for the cure of all ailments through prayer. Seven members have died during the past three weeks from diphtheria. No cognisance was taken after the first few deaths, but the neighbours afterwards sent physicians who were, however, not permitted to treat the afflicted. One family lost three of its members in a few days, but the surviving relatives only continued their prayers. The authorities are unable under the law to force medical attention upon the afflicted, and are compelled merely to quarantine the houses where deaths have occurred. The sect, moreover, conceals information concerning the presence op disease, the disclosure only coming after death.
