SHANNON RAILWAY STATION.
DEPARTMENT REFUSES EXTENSION.
At the Shannon Chamber of Commerce meeting held recently, a reply was received from the .Minister of Railways, through Mr J. Linklater, M.P., re the Cham - ber’s request for a dry dock and urging improvements fo the parcels office and ladies’ waiting room at the Shannon railway station. The Minister stated that the congestion at the parcels office was caused principally by traffic arising from the Mangahao hydro-electric works and that the greater part of the traffic would cease during'the present year and the traffic will then return to normal, when the present building should he sufficient for requirements. Tu respect to additions to the ladies’ waiting room he considered the present building reasonaide for requirements of those travelling by rail and there was no necessity for enlargement.
