SOCCER.
WELLINGTON DEFEATS PONTON.
(Jn Monday last the Wellington South Soccer team tried conclusions with the local team and succeeded in defeating the home team by 2 to 1. The game was played on the racecourse and attracted a good attendance. Wellington took the aggressive from the start and hard pressed Foxton during the greater part of the game. From a good centre from the left wing Welling ton registered their first score. Just before half-time Foxton became aggressive but Winstanley’s shot at goal just missed. At half time the local team was changed round with beneficial results, Foxton having the best of the second spell. During this spell Wellington were awarded a free kick but Young, for Foxton, saved. Immediately afterwards, however Wellington scored in the corner. From this out, Foxton continuously attacked. Foxton’s only score came from a nice centre by Wjnstanley, Crowe finding the net. The game ended: Wellington 2, Foxton *l. Mr D. W. Robertson controlled the game.
In the evening the visitors were entertained at Air \\ instanley ■-> (president of the Association) residence where dancing was indulged in, interspersed with songs and musical items. About twenty five couple,, were present and all spent a most enjoyable time. At the conclusion three hearty cheers were given for the host and hostess.
